Waisted Wood Chair Design | Mosquito Chair | Michael Bihain

The chair Mosquito is the result of a thought about the furniture humanism and autonomy. A first step towards the "no furniture". The answer takes the form of a living being; an independent, obvious chair which gladly lends itself to play the role of a comfortable seat. The chair Mosquito is made from a waisted wood leaf. It can be piled up in two ways, pragmatic or graphic........more

Chair Design | Low Chair | Innova

Chairs are something I wanted to start design first soon as I come to china. Year before in Milan in studio Urquiola I was enjoying working on the Moroso and Kartell chairs. My desire for designing chairs in China was even bigger because of the easy nest to make them. As an inspiration I took influences. I realized that influences are shaping my design and every place that I have lived in left a mark. As a European girl who likes Asian design very much, mine vision of Asian furniture was quite wrong. Whenever I thought of sitting habit in Asia in my mind was low sitting. I started my concept from there to make family of low sitting chairs. Later I founded that Chinese chairs are actually very high. Even wrong, but those influences I would like to keep while searching for another inspiration. Mixing them always creates something surprising.

Chair family contains 3 version of low sitting chairs. One with high back rest, second with low back rest and third is table-stool which can be used in both ways as stool with pillow or as coffee table......more

Chair Design | Cork Chair | Float | Daniel Michalik

This was the first piece of furniture I designed using cork. As you can see from the construction, I was (and still am) part woodworker, part corksmith. The frame is black lacquered beech, the seat cork. It's a bit higher than most contemporary lounge chairs, so it's very easy to get in and out of. Still, it is supremely comfortable and the cork seat feels luxurious in its tactility. The proportions of the seat are generous, allowing many different seating positions to be achieved comfortably. Pour yourself a cocktail and have a seat, I insist........more

Chair Design | A cork child's chair | Daniel Michalik

These childrens' chairs are made completely from cork that originates as the waste material from the bottle stopper industry. Cork has tremendous potential to perform in ways unlike any other material, as well as being an environmentally responsible material. These chairs are the result of the desire to develop my own techniques for casting granulated cork. Through learning to cast the material I am able to insure the ecological responsibility of all binding agents used, as well as streamline from scratch the production processes. Cast cork produces a dense, unusual texture, highly attractive and intriguing to the eyes and hands of young children. I hope to adapt the technique in the future to produce an adult-size version, but for now we will just have to wish we were tiny again.......more

Chair Design | Stretch Collection | Jessica Carnevale

With her debut collection “Stretch”, Jessica wanted to bring some of the exuberance of the fashion world into her designs. She experimented with a number of different materials and chose latex, bungee and rope for their bright colors and wondrous elasticity. Built by Jessica in her studio in Brooklyn she made a simple chair to better frame the compositions that she created. The result is a collection of three vivid pieces, after all, design should be beautiful and useful, but also fun.......more

Wooden Park And Garden Furniture Design | Alexander Moronnoz

"Y" is a design for scalable park and garden furniture. This unconventional outdoor seating idea consists of a series of vertical slats of wood. They are linked together by adjustable assembly fixings, offering a wide range of configuration options. The qualities of "retified", (thermally treated) wood enable the furniture to withstand outdoor weather conditions. "Y" is named after the geometric shape of the basic module, which is thus transformed from a visual motif into a functional form...........more

“You”(something) and “Wu”(nothing) are dialectical themes in Laotzu’s theory. Biennale Internationale Design St-Etienne 2008 | Outdoor Urban Bench | Muscle | Alexander Moronnoz

Bench Design | Jorre Van Ast

If You Could Collaborate is the fourth annual If You Could exhibition. Aiming to provide a platform for the finest creatives from all over the world to question their conventional working methods and outcomes. The contributors have been challenged to produce something a little unexpected, by working with a partner of their choosing from any discipline, profession or background. There is no brief to answer, or format to honour – the only limit being the enterprise and imagination of the artists involved, and a liberal 12 month deadline. Below are all of the pairings, and their outcomes.

Interested in the playful nature of his creations, van Ast’s functionally aware pieces look to make the audience think carefully about how they interpret his objects. Bringing in designer Damien Poulain to help make a statement about the fences that were erected for the new East London Underground line that sit between their studios, the pair have produced a large-scale sculptural piece exploring 2 and 3-dimentional geometry.....more

Eclectic Armchair Design | LA.J.A. | Alessandro Busana Design Studio

LA.J.A. is an armchair rich of accurate technical an stylistic details, like the seat that allows the use of a single profiled leg for the front and back position as well (from heare come the acronym L.A.J.A. Legs Are Just Alike) . This feature permits a quicker productive process, an optimisation in the stocking operations and an easier assembling. The die casted aluminium legs support the seat, the back and the armrests, which merge in a single shell of polyurethane upholstered with simil leather or transpiring fabric. The design of the upholstered part allows a double match, materials/colours, that gives a further furnishing idea. This armchair becomes extremely eclectic and versatile, ideal for residential spaces or contract locations, where the care of the details and the research of the design, translate into an emotion.......more

Table Design | Lime | Stephanie Jasny

LIMES derived from the image of a mathematical function. Similar to a curve which is steadily approaching zero, this decrease is transfered to the edge of a tabletop. The larger the diameter, the thinner the edge. The surface curvature at the bottom of the tabletop offers enough space for the legs. Without any additional screws the legs can be inserted into the tabletop.
A special 3-D veneer covers both sides of the tabletop.......more
