Cassiopeia Dining Table | Steve Watson

The Cassiopeia is a large glass topped dining table with cold rolled aluminium legs and bevelled edges. The dramatic sculptural base is formed from three laser cut cold-rolled aluminium pieces braced together in a structure reminiscent of elliptical orbital patterns.
The tabletop is a triangular piece of toughened glass with curved edges. The Cassiopeia is a design that pays homage to architectural structure. It also plays with perceptions, like a visual trick. The cleverly conceived leg detail makes the table appear both heavy and light, depending upon which angle it is viewed from.

Laure future flora lights by Studio Tord Boontje for Artecnica

Artecnica is a los angeles based design company that elevates the purpose of everyday objects by using design to enchant, inspire, & transform them.
Creative directors tahmineh javanbakht & enrico bressan collaborate with international designers to express this vision through unique product ideas.
The result is an innovative, award-winning collection of design objects.
Designed by studio tord boontje, the future flora lights are made from precision-etched metal sheets that transform into three different exotic bloom-shaped forms.
This product inhabits the intersection of nature & technology.
According to tord boontje, ‘although i started by looking very closely at flowers, it became a project from memory, to imagine shapes which are like flowers but not exactly, a new kind of species – a flower & light hybrid.’
The contoured openings, fine details, & matte silver surface of the future flora lights all conspire to illuminate space by casting poignant radiance.
The lights are packaged flat and assembled by connecting the intricate metal sheets that make up each design.
Made from silver plated steel. rugiada future flora as seen in t -the new york times style magazine, spring 2009.
