Stool | Naoshima By Emiliana Design Studio

Naoshima is a collection of stools and tables for the contract market that experiments with the structural and expressive potential of curved plywood.

The Naoshima stool combines four identical pieces of plywood to construct the seat. The seat, together with four wooden legs, creates a solid and unique whole. The empty spaces generated in the corners of the plywood seat make Naoshima a light and visually vibrant piece of furniture. The Naoshima stool is produced in three different finishes: natural oak and dyed or lacquered beech.
The plywood top of the Naoshima table seems to split into two in order to trap the central leg. Depending on the different sizes the central leg is manufactured in lacquered metal or solid wood. The 70 and 110cm-high models include hooks for bags or jackets. .....more

Blankets | Coloured plaids By Scholten + Baijings

Scholten & Baijings’ richly and vividly coloured plaids create a colour explosion in the interior. The designs of these blankets consist of interrupted colour sequences. It’s these vivid stripes and the multitude of colours that make the Colour Plaids unique. It is therefore not surprising that the fabrics were woven by the Dutch weaving mill De Ploeg which has been working closely with leading designers since 1923. The blankets are made of Merino wool and cotton, which makes them super soft! You can use them in countless ways: to wrap around yourself, lie beneath, decorate your bed or sofa, or give an old piece of furniture a new lease of life. The ‘Colour Bombs’ can be purchased in five different designs and two sizes: 140 x 180 cm and 280 x 260 cm. This collection of plaids is complemented with a variety of cushions in individual designs.
In short, a must for your interior!....more

The Cuoio Chair By eeos

The Cuoio Chair impresses with its reduced simplicity, which is the direct result of its material logic. Thick Cuoio leather, which gives the chair its name, and black powdered steel form the skin and frame. The cutouts in the seat and back surfaces are not only decorative, but have a form-giving function analogous to tailored clothes. It is primarily these slots that lend the chair its characteristic shape. Cuoio is simultaneously natural and modern. Moreover, by reducing the materials used, it is easily recyclable and therefore particularly sustainable. The Cuoio Chair is available with or without arms, entirely in black or in three different shades of brown.....more

Chair By Luca Nichetto | Alle for Skitsch

Created to serve many uses, Alle is a revisitation of the tubular chair, but with an innovative twist. The chair consists of a tubular metal structure into which a curved plywood seat is fitted, so both components are made of simple, commonplace materials. It comes in two versions, a classic four-legged one and another with a four-footed columnar base. One of Alle’s distinguishing characteristics is the gradated shading of the edges of its seat with paint the same colour as that of the frame, which creates an effect recalling the wear typically seen on the wooden chairs in cafés or bars.....more

AP Stool | Lapalma Italy | Shin Azumi

This project began as an experiment to express the excellence of bent plywood in a maximized way. My aim was not only to explore sculptural beauty, but to also maximize functionality within a minimal structure.

As a final result I came up with the idea of a stool with a monocoque structure, created from a single sheet of plywood. Unlike other stools there is no distracting division between its parts. The seat and body of the stool seamlessly merge from one to the other in a single fluid motion. The stool not only provides a seat on which to sit, this is also combined with a stacking function. The stool has a large contact area between itself and the floor. This disperses the pressure and helps to prevent damage to delicate floor surfaces such as carpet.

Within this project, I attempted to capture the beauty and elegance of the tensioned form which is naturally created when bending sheet material. Therefore, in this particular project all of the development was carried out using cardboard. It was only during the final stages that a CAD program was used. Once the cardboard model had been finalised in the studio, it was then three dimensionally scanned and converted into digital data to produce the mould.....more

Bookshelf | Quetza | NEL

Quetza is a bookshelf that roughly resembles the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl who was shaped after a feathered snake. The piece can be leaned against a wall or supported by a table or chair. As it appears in pre-hispanic architecture, the snake descends to the ground as if sliding down a staircase. The Quetza bookshelf is currently manufactured by Pirwi.
