Binta was inspired by Africa. Its sculptural shape evokes African wood carvings. Its soft upholstery is clothed with a patchwork of wax-fabrics, the traditional textiles worn by African women. The fabrics have been chosen in the rich catalogue of Vlisco of Holland who have produced them for over 150 years. Contrasting patterns and colours emphasise the armchair’s shape. Binta is also available in plain fabrics.

Lounge Chair | Straw Lounge | Osko + Deichmann | Blastation

Straw Lounge is a lounge chair constructed entirely of steel. What makes Straw and Straw Lounge unique is the way in which the tubular steel has been deformed. Instead of forming the frame in gentle bends, Osko + Deichmann have folded the steel tubes. Folds and kinks are the most obvious way to deform a tube, but the contrast with the otherwise rounded shape of the tube produces a result that seems almost to have been fashioned by hand.
Bent tubular steel has stood as a symbol for modernity in furnishings ever since the innovative designs of Mart Stam and Marcel Breuer in the 1920s. Advances in manufacturing techniques revolutionised the furniture industry and heralded a new era for furniture.

Bengtsson spins a single carbon-fibre into a slender, mesh-like layer that weaves a cylindrical shape. The flexibility of the mesh moulds to the body as it cradles the sitter in the same comfort that would be afforded by a sprung base. Designer's Statement

The torment and discomfort that women have historically endured to become the ultimate object of desire is an alluring and mysterious practice that is today prevalent in an extraordinarily wide variety of social circles and classes.

For some it forms part of a self expression or self stimulation but for many it is a means of being what is today considered normal. The procurement of the perfect body or look comes in many guises from body shaping corsetry to stiletto shoes (a sexually charged object in itself) and to the radical procedure of bodily augmentation.

Though one will wonder why eastern women go through the pain of leg lengthening and western women gather for home Botox parties, it does prove there is an insatiable desire to be desirable however hideous the outcome may be.


The object of desire focuses on the sexualized female form, emptied of its body and freed from the pain.

The modelling method of rapid prototyping served as the starting point for this design. At the time, I was reading a book about Paul Klee in which he said that when he was drawing, it was like taking the line for a walk. This expression gave me the final theme to design a lightweight structure for a lounge chair with enormous wings. The upholstered version of this came a year later. To be able to sit in it without being concerned about one's shoes was a small detail in this autonomous structure.
