Workstation | Ball Nouges Studio
"We designed this permanent sculpture-like workspace for Edward Cella Art + Architecture (ECAA) in its newly relocated gallery across from LACMA and adjacent to the new location of the A+D Museum on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles.
The undulating functional object was crafted by hand from assembled layers of industrially cut cardboard and Koskisen plywood.
Seeking to affect the white cube space of the gallery with minimal use of materials, we utilized the surging repetition and pattern created by stacking two shapes of pre-cut cardboard designed and calibrated on computational software.
Suggesting movement and vitality, the reception counter acts as a fluid yet intermediary object between the public space of the gallery and the gallery's workspace.
Fabricated by our collective team, the workstation reflects the gallery's emphasis on craftsmanship and execution.
Embracing the post-gilded age economy, the design's humble materials do not shy from seeking new and dynamic forms.

Rocking Chair | Mamma Rocking Chair | PID
MAMMA rocking chair Limited edition.
Simplicity. Sensuality. Comfort.
The concept for the rocking chair is a touching tribute by industrial designer Patrick Messier to Sophie Fournier, his partner in life & business, for the birth of their first child.
When Sophie announced that she was pregnant, she said, We'll have to buy a rocking chair. After looking in vain for a rocking chair that met all their criteria for good looks & comfort, Patrick decided to create one for Sophie.
Like a ribbon suspended in space, the MAMMA rocking chair is made from a single piece of fibreglass, with a special high-gloss urethane finish.
MAMMA's curves, designed on a grid based on the Fibonacci sequence, are incredibly comfortable......more

Wertel Oberfell | Module.MGX
Module.MGX is a modular table system that is based on the Fractal Table that was designed in collaboration with Matthias Bär. It draws inspiration from research into geometries with self-similarity e.g. fractals, patterns that occur in nature and proportional systems like the golden section.
With its steep angled walls and hollow structure, the Module.MGX minimizes waste, saves energy during the production process and makes production more cost effecctive. Due to its size and shape, the table can be used alone or with an infinte number placed seamlessly next to each other.
Module.MGX is made in ABS and is produced with 3D printing technology. It is a vailable in two colours - white and red. The dimensions of one table unit are 48cm x 49.9cm x h40cm.
On 7th May 2010 Dragonfly.MGX was introduced to the public at the furniture fair in Milan/Italy in Via Tortona 19......more
Wertel Oberfell | The Dragonfly.MGX
The fascination for us lies within its complex three dimensional array of photoreceptor cells or in this case light emitting cells.
Dragonfly.MGX is taking functional requirements like glare shielding and direct/indirect light into consideration.
Therefore the skin is closed on the upper cells and gradually opens up towards the lower part to let more light pass through. It utilizes a standard size light bulb e.g. an energy saving ligh bulb E27, thus making it a fully functional pendant light.
Dragonfly.MGX is made in Epoxy and is produced with 3D printing technology. This process becomes more and more interesting for mass production. It is available in two colours - Terra Cotta and Amber.
The diameter of the shade is 30cm and the height is 20cm. On 7th May 2010 Dragonfly.MGX was introduced to the public at the furniture fair in Milan/Italy in Via Tortona 19 and at Light & Building in Frankfurt/Germany.....more

Junio Design | Web Chair
A chair that appears and disappears like a spider web Stainless steel with a mirror finish allows the outline of the chair to blur into the light and its surroundings, thus allowing the presence to transform in different settings.
Diamond Chair, DKR, Pylon Chair, Corallo...There are historically and aesthetically celebrated wire chairs, which made a great impact on the designer.
Seeking new possibilities in the realm of chairs, he plotted to use only fine wires in its creation.
Irregularly welded trusses are used to create this strong but transient chair with an utterly
innovative texture. In result it is probably the lightest piece of metal furniture that exists in the history of mankind.
The weightlessness (approx. 2.2kgs)allows a woman to hold the chair with just one hand.
Approximately 2000 welding points hold the chair together.
Material : Stainless steel wire : length : approx.140,000mm / diameter : 1.6mm

Fractal.mgx coffee table by Platform Studio for Materialise
The fractal.mgx coffee table is derived from studying the fractal growth patterns of trees. Reinforcing the growing bond between nature & mathematical formulas, this table is comprised of treelike stems which grow into smaller branches until they get very dense at the top. Manufactured as a single piece – without seams or joints – using stereolithography, fractal.mgx would be impossible to produce using other manufacturing techniques made from epoxy resin.
Fractal.mgx was launched in 2009 as part of the e-volution collection. Inspired by the digital, environmental, & artistic transitions taking place in the world, this collection was brought to life using the revolutionary .mgx additive layered fabrication (ALF). These techniques enable the merging of design, art, nature, & technology and take the concept of beauty to a new level.
The designers, gernot oberfell & jan wertal, founded their own studio in 2007 after studying industrial design at the state academy of art in Stuttgart, Germany. They share a strong interest in new technologies and processes, discovering very early the possibilities of computer aided design as a source of inspiration and a vehicle to discover new & exciting form languages.....more
Charlie Davidson | 'the object of desire, sweet jane' | chaise lounge
Designer's Statement
The torment and discomfort that women have historically endured to become the ultimate object of desire is an alluring and mysterious practice that is today prevalent in an extraordinarily wide variety of social circles and classes.
For some it forms part of a self expression or self stimulation but for many it is a means of being what is today considered normal. The procurement of the perfect body or look comes in many guises from body shaping corsetry to stiletto shoes (a sexually charged object in itself) and to the radical procedure of bodily augmentation.
Though one will wonder why eastern women go through the pain of leg lengthening and western women gather for home Botox parties, it does prove there is an insatiable desire to be desirable however hideous the outcome may be.
The object of desire focuses on the sexualized female form, emptied of its body and freed from the pain.

Edwards Moore | Dog Box
Architects Edwards Moore have designed a playful mirrored dog box, which they say is “a place for the office dog to get some R&R!”
The new, design-focused practice based in Melbourne has only been formed for a couple of months, and architects Ben Edwards and Juliet Moore have created the dog boxes as a side project to their architectural work.
The product is made from laser-cut mdf, with a mirrored 880 Lucida Abet Laminati laminate finish. It is named after their first ‘client’ Jimmi, Edwards’ dog, and gives the classic dog box a playful twist.

John Saladino | Living Room Decor
"He manipulates scale in the living room by creating a separate breakfast nook using smaller furniture. In the master bedroom, he softens the space with optical illusions, floating the bed away from the wall while blending it in with a monochromatic palette. A mesh half-canopy, rather than a full four-poster, accommodates the room's scale, while a floor-to-ceiling mirror opposite ten-foot shutters creates the illusion of a corridor to a larger room.
In keeping with his philosophy of juxtaposing old with new, Saladino makes seventeenth-century references to the film while mixing antiques and pieces from his own furniture collection in a modern way. Subtle metal studs and trim are added to pillows and upholstered pieces. Bedroom shutters and a folding screen in the living room resemble shutters used in traditional Dutch houses. Several oriental rugs cover antique-engineered oak floors that look like the silver-gray, scrubbed wooden floors of a vintage Dutch residence. Hanging tapestries, which also served as insulation, recall Dutch decor. Curtains draped throughout the house not only introduce an element of mystery but also help absorb noise in keeping with the meditative silence Vermeer's artwork projects." Veranda

Chair | Crossed Stick Chair | Samwoong Lee
"There is a time to devote the part that a man wants to take by himself, learn it and foster the width, the depth and the volume of the knowledge. And I think that the time may be divided into two times of the time to present the capacity learnt and fostered by the person himself and the time to show it as his own thing.
Now, how much do I have come to the completion of my life? Is this time the process making learning fat and fostering the volume? Or is this time the process polishing and presenting in order to show what I have learnt?
Crossed stick chair was progressed in order to express the series of these processes to a work. At the beginning, I had attached the sticks with various sizes one by one without knowing what I have to make. I drew a chair when a size was made to some extent and I had attached sticks in order to make the shape that I want. More and more this part….
When the chair was made to some extent as the size that I want to accomplish, I started cutting as the shape of the use that I want and polishing it. Even cutting and grinding….
Like this, a series of working processes and the appearance living a life of a man…
I would like to express it."
