Chair And Coffee Table Designed By Studio Robert Stadler

"The "Rest in Peace" series started in 2004 when I perforated the typical plastic chair (probably the most invasive piece of furniture around). The act came out of an utopic desire to accelerate the chair's vanishing. The shape of the holes are replicas of a macroscopical view of osteoporosis, so the object appears as a skeleton, a fossil found in the future. In 2008 we realized a cast-aluminium version of "Rest in Peace" as a continuation of a traditional technique used for garden furniture. But here the shapes don't appear as gentle, decoratif motifs but rather as the reflection of this very idea of dissolution."
