Sofa Design | Tephra Formations Designed By Studio Robert Stadler For Siegeair, Chennevières

Tephra Formations appears as a continuation of the Pools & Pouf! ensemble but is yet a different story.
Even if the starting point can still be seen as a critique on traditional bourgeois values in furniture, the different elements of Tephra Formations are rather representing an idea of mutation than dissolution.
The Irregular Bomb combines several seating typologies, which seem to have melted together into one piece.
The other three bombs correspond to more established furniture types, namely an armchair, a pouf and a low-table.
The word "tephra" derives from Greek and means "ash". Volcanologists describe tephra as solid material of all sizes explosively ejected from a volcano into the atmosphere. Various terms are used to describe airborne volcanic ejecta.
Large fragments are called bombs if they were ejected during the eruption in a semi-solid, or partial molten, condition while blocks are ejected during the eruption in a solid state.
